How do you welcome new employees and integrate them into your culture?
Staff employees attend a week long on-boarding program designed to integrate them into the firm and its culture. On-boarding consists of general firm information and history, benefits information, and technology training. In addition, representatives from various administrative departments such as client development and finance speak to the new employees about what their groups do within the firm. This program allows for new employees to meet other new employees, and also gain knowledge about the function of different administrative departments.

Recently, WilmerHale has also implemented our Staff Mentoring Program where new hires are matched with a mentor for their first year at the firm. Staff members apply to volunteer as a mentor and attend several training sessions before being matched with a new employee. Mentors assist with a new employee's acclimation and integration to the firm by creating a point of contact for our new employees and providing continued support for the new staff member.

What workplace recognition has WilmerHale received recently?
WilmerHale takes great pride in fostering a dynamic, collaborative, and inclusive work environment. Our workplace culture has been recognized by several institutions over the years; some of our most recent achievements are listed below:

  • Corporate Equality Index (2009-2015) - WilmerHale earned a 100 percent rating in the Corporate Equality Index (CEI), an annual survey administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRC) which evaluates the treatment of LGBT employees in the workplace. This is the seventh consecutive year WilmerHale has received a perfect CEI score on the survey.

How does the firm show appreciation or recognition for hard work and achievements?
WilmerHale employees are shown appreciation through our several recognition and reward programs:

Milestone Program: The firm recognizes employee milestones that include recognition of every five years of their work with the firm. To honor their contribution, employees are awarded a plaque and cash gift on these anniversaries, and an annual dinner recognizes employees and alumni who have worked for the firm for 10 years or longer. Additionally, the firm hosts an annual luncheon honoring employees and alumni who have worked for the firm for 25 years or longer.

Executive Director Global Excellence Award: The Executive Director Global Excellence Award (EDGE) recognizes the extraordinary contributions and sacrifices WilmerHale staff often make on behalf of the firm. The stories of many of these outstanding employees have been spotlighted on the firm's internal website, INSITE.

Spot On Award: Administrative Department leaders recognize significant one-time contributions made by individuals or a team of staff members. The award is monetary and is presented by the employee's department head or manager.

Sabbaticals: All employees who are regularly scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week are eligible for the paid sabbatical program. To qualify, an eligible employee must work the equivalent of 10 years of full-time service.
